Empowering Europe’s Semiconductor Future by uniting innovation and driving progress

The Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) is one of Europe’s most important initiatives for strengthening semiconductor research, innovation, manufacturing, and technological sovereignty.

As a public-private partnership between the European Union, participating countries, industry leaders, research organisations, and innovation ecosystems, Chips JU drives strategic investments across the semiconductor value chain and supports Europe’s ambition to become a global leader in semiconductor technologies.

By connecting research excellence with industrial deployment, Chips JU helps transform breakthrough innovations into real-world applications while strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and resilience.

What is the Chips Joint Undertaking?

The Chips Joint Undertaking was established under the European Chips Act to accelerate semiconductor innovation and strengthen Europe’s position in the global semiconductor landscape.

Building on the success of previous European initiatives, Chips JU supports collaborative projects, advanced research infrastructures, pilot lines, design enablement, competence centres, skills development, and manufacturing capabilities.

Its mission is to ensure that Europe remains competitive in key technologies while reducing dependencies and strengthening strategic autonomy across critical semiconductor value chains.

Key Objectives of Chips JU

Chips JU supports cutting-edge research and innovation across the semiconductor value chain. By funding collaborative projects and providing access to world-class infrastructures, it accelerates the development of next-generation technologies in areas such as advanced electronics, AI hardware, photonics, quantum technologies, advanced materials, and semiconductor manufacturing.

Through close cooperation between industry, research organizations, universities, and innovation ecosystems, Chips JU helps transform scientific excellence into industrial impact and market-ready solutions.
